This is Summertime by me, Steffy, and Andre not the exemplary Will Smith

But you already know this is something you can’t discredit

Schools out, no more homework and animosity

Not the time to be penurious, it’s the time to be spontaneous and desultory


At the top of the “To-Do List”, infiltrate Six Flags

Then off to every shopping spot, walking out with mad bags

Next day, looking all foppish

Causing everybody in the street to do some major stoppage

Now epitomized as debonair

Next stop, the florid New York State Fair

Nonchalantly in line waiting to get into the club

The impervious bouncer told us to cross the street and grab some grub

I tried to compromise with him, hoping things will get better

But things got out of hand and like Lupe it was a fiasco and he whooped out the fetters


Augment your joy and jubilation at the beach

Perpetual happiness is something school can’t teach

Ostentatious women walking the sand in their bikinis

And I see slovenly enormous women who need embellishing, eating Panini

Skeptical of the water at first because of the shoal

But parched from the hot weather, I have no choice but to go


Feeling no remorse whatsoever

The summertime will be engraved in my memory forever

Summer’s ending, school’s approaching

Back to the teacher’s incessant questions and coaching

Oblivious of everything that has been taught in the past

In class reminiscing about the summer and hoping next summer will come fast!

Classwork; April 1st


Rubric Standards for persuasive writing:
Successful persuasion should:
  1. State the issue and the writer’s position
  2. Give opinions and support them with facts or reasons
  3. Have a reasonable and respectful tone
  4. Answer opposing views
  5. Use sound logic and effect language
  6. Conclude by summing up reasons or calling for action
This speech was aimed towards the soldiers who were involved in the Civil War. The audience of this speech were the soldiers of the Civil War. The reason that this speech was written was to commemorate the soldiers who fought in the Civil War. " The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract." This short 2 minute speech changed the perspective people had on the civil war.
"That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom - and that government of the people, by the people, or the people, shall not perish from this earth." Abraham Lincoln is saying
that he plans to keep "we the people" from the preamble of the constitution alive because that's what this country is about being ran by the people.

Being Compared to a fruit
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood of Slaves
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Blacks who were hung↑
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

A young man of Fashion

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
How the Slaves looked like when they were hung

Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
Crow Eating the Leftovers
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,

Do Now: Read an excerpt from Chief Joseph’s speech. Interpret the following quotes:

How is the art of rhetoric evident in Chief Joseph’s speech?
The art of Rhetoric is evident in Chief Joseph's Speech because he talks about how his people were in the land first and how every man should be created equal.
Who is he addressing in this speech?
He is addressing it to the government because they aren't paying attention to what his saying about how they want to take his land.
Who is he indicting and why? Identify any heroic characteristics?
The Heroic Characterisic in this speech is that they didn't give up there land for fur skins, or anything that what given to them.

Do Now: What is a myth? Do you know of any?
What is a Folklore? Can you recall a Folklore?

A myth is a sacred story concerning the origins of the world or how the world and the creatures in it came to be in their present form. The active beings in myths are generally gods and heroes.

A Folklore is Folklore is the body of expressive culture, including tales, music, dance, legends, oral history, proverbs, jokes, popular beliefs, customs, and so forth within a particular population comprising the traditions (including oral traditions) of that culture, subculture, or group.

What do you think is creation mythology?
Creation Myth- story or explanation that describes the beginnings of humanity, earth, life, and the universe usually as a deliberate act of "creation" by a supreme being.

An Oral Tradition in my family is that ever Christmas Eve during dinner my grandmother and uncles tell us stories about there childhood and all the things they did when they were young. Because when my grandmother was young her mother told stories at the dinner table. And now me and my brothers tell stories about most of the crazy things we did when we were younger

Letter To Speaker

Dear Speaker,

A Few days ago I took sometime and read your narrative “Ambush.” From Beginning to end I
was touched by how well you had expressed yourself. I couldn’t even imagine what it was going to war, and leaving your family. When you wrote in your narrative” It was a difficult moment, but I did what seemed right, which was to say, “Of course not”,I figured you couldn’t be able to tell your daughter because you were afraid of what she might think. There’s times in life when you do everything that you can do possible to not hurt the ones you love and I think you did that with Kathleen. But she wouldn’t jugde you for killing someone because you didn’t do it on purpose.
To me you are a very brave man for doing what you did, fight for our country,
no matter what you have to do. I wouldn’t be able to do something like that because that means I would have to leave me family behind and loved ones behind. You could have been in Peril but that didn’t stop you. I know that you were affected by killing the young man, but if you think about it you can’t blame yourself because its not your fault. Everything happens for a reason, what you did was just try and protect yourself and your other soldiers. When I read your short story I wondered this must be how the people in Iraq are feeling and I complain about things that I shouldn’t complain about, when out there in world there is people fighting to keep me and this country protected. Sometimes I do things I’m not suppose to and I take what I have for granted when I know that what I have is something I shouldn’t take for granted.
The advice I could give you is don’t blame yourself for doing what you did. I know it’s hard but
you said “ It was entirely automatic.” so you didn’t do it to hurt him. Another thing is in the future if you do wish to tell Kathleen, tell her don’t be afraid that she’s gonna judge you because she’s not, she’s even gonna tell you that it wasn’t your fault. Finally this narrative left me in such Gape because it thought me many things that I know I’m gonna need in the near future or maybe now and I wanted to thank you for being a brave man and doing what you thought was right.

apprehension-noun anticipation of adversity or misfortune; suspicion or fear of future trouble or evil.

Cooperative Learning:
What aspect of the conditions aboard ship does the protagonist stress in this account?
The Conditions of the ship were deadly. They were under a deck, that was contaminated, sickness spread amongst because of contamination.

Cite two examples of the slave traders’ cruelty to slaves.
What might have motivated the trader’s behavior toward their human cargo? Explain.
Two examples of the slave traders cruelty is that they made then go through hunger, or get hit with a whip.

For what crimes were slaves punished? And what was the punishment?
They Slaves were punished when they tried to get food, because most slaves have rather throw themselves of the ship then die of hunger. As their punishment they were drowned, of hit with a whip.
Critical Thinking Questions:

Interpret: Why does Equiano blame the illness aboard the ship on the “improvident avarice” of the traders?
Eqiano blamed the illness aboard because traders didn't care about what they slaves went through they just wanted to get as much slaves as they could. They cared more about how much money they would receive so thats why they stacked them as if nothing not caring about the emotional and physical affects.

Support from the text: How can you tell that Equiano has a great zest for life despite his assertion that he wanted to die?
Equiano has a great enjoyment for life because he had never seen most of the things he saw, after he was taking out the ship. For example when he saw the houses he quotes "What struck me first was that the houses were built with stories." The things Equiano saw where things he hadn't see. "I was still more astonished on seeing people on horseback" he saw horse, houses, etc. which amazed him.

I am Steffy Zambrano. I am a girl who loves to play volleyball. I am a singer, but no i do not hit Jordin Sparks high notes because my vocals are far from that. I am a dreamer.I am a girl who is trying to pursue many dreams. I am afraid of the speed bumps life puts on the road. I am who I am, take it or leave it because I'm not changing for no one and being me is what is going to take me far in life. I am the best baker in this world and my cupcakes are not topped by no one. I am a star cause I shine in the hallways of ITHS. And I am not going to make my dream come true I am going to become my dream.
