Strange Fruit By Billie Holiday

Strange Fruit
Billie Holiday

Being Compared to a fruit
Southern trees bear strange fruit,
Blood of Slaves
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root,
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze,
Blacks who were hung↑
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

A young man of Fashion

Pastoral scene of the gallant south,
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth,
How the Slaves looked like when they were hung

Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh,
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh.

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck,
Crow Eating the Leftovers
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck,
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop,
Here is a strange and bitter crop.

I Am What I Am

I am What I am
My mothers first born
My fathers pride and joy
I fought this cold War all alone
Until a Pink blanky Came Along
Behind the curls was a little Brave Solider

Together we conquered the sandbox
and all the little twirps that came along
But nothing prepared us for the Storm of THING 1 & THING 2
Like love sucking Monsters they craved for attention
Little Did we know we'd be left out in the cold
They'd Be armored with Soccer Balls and Legos
Kicking and Building all around the house

Our Telephones and Uber Coolness
Because with one frown we'd be yelling out mercy
Once the balls stopped rolling
And the phones stopped ringing
We Not Only Became a family
We Became the '
